Learn to play the tabla in these intimate group classes with professional tabla player, Yousuf Khan, covering everything from rhythm to syllables.

What to expect

These tabla lessons will cover many bases of learning how to play and perform the tabla. After a brief introduction on the history of the tabla and it’s importance in South Asian music, students will learn how to accompany singers on the tabla and keep in rhythm, as well as learning how to tune the instrument using the appropriate tools. There will also be the chance to perform their own solo improvisations to the group as well as learning how to perform as part of an ensemble.

The Dholak, another popular Indian drum instrument used traditionally in the Bhangra style of music, will also be used in these sessions to give an authentic sound to playing.

Please note, these lessons are capped at 4 students per class so booking in advance is advised to avoid disappointment. Tablas are provided.
